The colour of Himalayan salt is due to its high iron content combined with other minerals found in the salt. Himalayan black salt, also known as kala namak or sanchal, is a special type of unrefined volcanic salt. This salt first and foremost strikes you with its specific and very distinctive sulphurous smell, which may even remind you of eggs. Himalayan black salt has its uses in cuisine, especially Indian cuisine.
