Prunes are made from whole, ripe, fresh dark blue to purple plums. The tree that produces the plums is called the plum tree or the domestic plum. In Bohemia, it is called a plum, in Moravia a trnka. Thanks to their high vitamin, mineral and fibre content, plums should have a place in the diet of all healthy lifestyle enthusiasts. In addition to the aforementioned substances, they also contain a significant amount of the natural sugar sorbitol, which works in the intestines similarly to fibre, and the trace substance boron, which is found in plums, is also worth mentioning. Despite the high carbohydrate content, plums are suitable for a reduction diet due to their pectin content, which slows down the absorption of sugars and increases fat burning.
In dried fruit, natural sugars can crystallise and form a coating. This natural process does not reduce the quality of the fruit, but rather indicates that it has not been chemically treated. Plums may contain pieces of pits or whole pits.
Use: Dried plums can be used for baking cakes, making raw desserts or plum sauces. Whether you like to enjoy porridge, muesli or porridge cereal. Plums are a delicacy in their own right, and they're sure to drive away cravings for sweets. For better taste and texture, we recommend soaking them in warm water half an hour beforehand.
